Featuring exclusive artwork by Derrick Whitfield.
For AVI-8’s latest project, the independent watch brand reunites with the non-profit organization, Tuskegee Airmen Inc. (TAI) to release the AV-4103 Flyboy Tuskegee Airmen Meca-Quartz Limited-Edition. For this release, the watch collection will be dedicated to supporting TAI’s efforts to promote aviation careers to youths from disadvantaged communities.
With a total of 1,195 pieces being made, the collection consists of four references, each produced in limited quantities of 310 or less. Each variation is dressed in colors that reference one of the four original squadrons of the all-African American 332nd Fighter Group, which are the 99th, 100th, 301st, and 302nd. Meanwhile, the packaging also features exclusive illustrations by ex-Navy, Derrick Whitfield, starring the iconic Tuskegee Airmen in his hallmarked graphic art.
Housed in a 40mm stainless steel case, the watches are outfitted with domed mineral lenses, complete with dual time/elapsed time bezels. Running inside the models are highly precise Japanese Meca-Quartz movements with a water resistance of 5 ATM. The watches are also accompanied by a genuine leather strap in their corresponding color scheme, while an additional NATO nylon is also included for added sartorial versatility.
Each timepiece from the AVI-8 Flyboy Tuskegee Airmen Meca-Quartz Limited-Edition collection will retail for $290 USD/ £310 GBP. For every sold watch, 10% of its proceeds will go towards TAI to support its youth programs. The collection will be available for purchase via the brand’s official website starting on April 28, 2023.
